1. I tried to login, it says "Incorrect Login". What does this mean?
You probably have entered a wrong Calculator User ID or password. Please note that the password is case sensitive. If you forgot your password, click "Forgot password" on the start up screen. If you forgot your User ID, email us at calcsupport@yieldbook.com and we will resend your User ID to your registered email address.

2. I tried to login, it says, "Account in Use". What does this mean?
This means that either you or someone else is currently using your Calculator User ID or there is a failed session from your last calculator usage. For the first case, the other user (or your other instance of the Calculator) must be closed. The policy states that one Calculator User ID entitles you to run one instance of the Calculator at a time. After your Calculator is left running without being used, it will automatically time out. In this case, you would be able to restart it in another location. (For example, if you leave the Calculator up in your office and leave, you should be able to run it from home that night). For the second case, the problem should be automatically cleared after one hour. In case you need the session cleaned right away, please contact our system help desk.

3. Java Web Start says "Updating for changes" and hangs there. What should I do?
This could be caused by (1) the proxy setting of the computer has been changed, and the change is not reset for Java Web Start; (2) the network is very very slow. For the first case, you can either reinstall Java Web Start, which will automatically detects the change and modify the settings, or you can modify the settings in Java Web Start manager. For the second case, you need to check your network connections and consult your local system administrator.

4. I downloaded and installed the Calculator using Netscape Navigator. When I try to launch the Calculator I get a message informing me that that my computer does not know the jnlp file and prompts me to save the file.
You need to close all Netscape windows after you install Java Web Start. During the installation, Java Web Start modifies two files used by Netscape, which enables the browser to recognize the JNLP mime type. Without restarting Netscape, the new setting can not be reset by the browser. So, please close ALL your Netscape windows and restart the browser to enable the settings.

5. After downloading the jar files, a window appears with a message asking if you are willing to provide "Unrestricted access to your machine and network". Why?
The jar files are signed by a trusted party, VeriSign Inc. This allows a trusted application to run smoothly on your machine. This window only appears the first time Java Web Start finds signed applications which are allowed to gain unrestricted access to your machine and network. All you need to do is to verify that the certificate shows that the application is from Salomon Analytics and click "Yes" to continue.

6. Why does Sun Microsystem's logo pop up every time I run the calculator? Does Java Web Start download every time I start the Calculator?
No, when the Yield Book Calculator is installed, Java Web Start version 1.01 is downloaded to your desktop. Going forward, whenever you launch the Calculator, it will check to see if you have the most current version of the application. If you do not, it will download only the updated files.

7. After registering and installing the Yield Book Calculator, I am unable to login. Nothing appears to happen after entering my User ID and password.
Since you were able to successfully bring up the login screen, your network and proxy information is correct. The most likely cause is that your firm is using a proxy server that requires you to enter your Windows user id and password and that the window prompting you for this information is in the background. If this is the case, please run the calculator from your browser (preferably ie5) by entering the following URL: http://ybcalculator.yieldbook.com/start/startHttp.jsp

8. Every time I try to run the Calculator, I get a prompt asking for my domain name and password from my firm's proxy server. After entering this information and then entering the Calculator login information, the Calculator appears to hang and fails to open.
Run the calculator from your browser (preferably ie5) by entering the following URL: http://ybcalculator.yieldbook.com/start/startHttp.jsp
Note: The proxy login window comes up in the background so you must bring it forward.

9. I am a Citigroup employee and whenever I try to bring up the Calculator from Salomon Direct I get directed to the installation page on your web site.
Although your System Administrator "installed" the calculator onto your PC it is not fully installed until you start it from your Start Menu (this only needs to be done once). Once you have done this, you will see the Calculator login screen. The next time you start the Calculator from Salomon Direct, it will automatically start.
